First Sarah MacLean book。 A few bulleted thoughts:-Loved the concept of Callie having a list。 -good evolution showing Callie from spinster to confident woman-Ralston was a great hero -loved the banter between Callie and Ralston -I believe this is only a three book series but would love for Callie’s brother, Benedict to have his own story

I LOVED this book。 Loved the story, the adventure, the mishaps along the way, self growth the romance- so steamy and passionate。 One of my favorites this year。

OMG just so good!It was cute, funny, smutty, and a little bit feminist。 The perfect recipe for a great novel that I think anyone can enjoy。

Audiobook re-read。 I just love this book so very, very much。 I wanted a refresher in the hopes of continuing on in the series, 'cause I can't believe I've still only read one Sarah MacLean novel。。。very much want to remedy that in the second half of the year。I thought narrator Carolyn Morris did an impeccable job, rotating through Greek, Italian, and French accents with ease and giving each character a distinct voice without distracting from the story。 Audiobook re-read。 I just love this book so very, very much。 I wanted a refresher in the hopes of continuing on in the series, 'cause I can't believe I've still only read one Sarah MacLean novel。。。very much want to remedy that in the second half of the year。I thought narrator Carolyn Morris did an impeccable job, rotating through Greek, Italian, and French accents with ease and giving each character a distinct voice without distracting from the story。 。。。more

A solid 3 star read。 This was slow for me to get into, and it never fully took off for me。 I didn’t feel much spark between Callie and Gabriel。 I did appreciate how Gabriel’s mistress was handled。 Overall, it was ok, I just didn’t love it as much as I expected to。

it was *okay* up until the line: “he ate her mouth” halfway through the book。 Shame, because I wanted to like it。 Maybe I'll give it another go another time。 it was *okay* up until the line: “he ate her mouth” halfway through the book。 Shame, because I wanted to like it。 Maybe I'll give it another go another time。 。。。more

Love love this book! I go back to it when I need a real pick me up after feeling like this world beats us up too much! If you have ever felt out of place, please read to feel that you are not alone and not too much for anything or anyone!

DNF at 61%I felt my heart blooming at the beginning of the book。 Sounds good。 Callie was taking charge of her passive, hopeless, spinster life。 Yeah, you go girlie! And then she went to the rake's place。 Gawd, the second-hand embarrassment was real but this was the first of a long series of unfortunate semi-porno events featuring the main characters。Things that I didn't get:1) What was the logical reason for carrying the to-do list everywhere she went?2) Callie meeting Gabriel unceremoniously at DNF at 61%I felt my heart blooming at the beginning of the book。 Sounds good。 Callie was taking charge of her passive, hopeless, spinster life。 Yeah, you go girlie! And then she went to the rake's place。 Gawd, the second-hand embarrassment was real but this was the first of a long series of unfortunate semi-porno events featuring the main characters。Things that I didn't get:1) What was the logical reason for carrying the to-do list everywhere she went?2) Callie meeting Gabriel unceremoniously at the fencing club was quite a stretch but both of them making out in the unlocked training room at peak hours was just。。。too much。3) I get it they're attracted to each other but both of them were as boring as dirt。 I didn't care enough to continue。 They do have some pretty witty banters but Callie was always on the verge of having her brain turned into mush or having a touch-my-vag field day every time she met the handsome rake so。。。I guess this was the entire arc for both of them?I was glad to not read one more page of this book。 Phew。 。。。more

A really good bookThis is a really good read。 I did not check in the beginning how long it was, and was pleasantly surprised at its length, even if it kept me up to the wee hours of the morning。 It gives you good chance to get to know the characters and watch them grow。

More descriptive than I anticipated。

This book is lovely! Well it is given already but I am never getting tired of this trope which involves rakes!I am a sucker of character development, I never regret opening this book the moment I craved for romance。 My heart is totally swooned by the Marquess of Ralston 🤭 I cannot blame Callie for spending a decade loving him。While my feet are being swept by the marquess, I do take note how Callie empowers not only herself but the entire women of the society。 I am so proud of her as she ticks of This book is lovely! This was simply fantastic! One of the best historicals I've read in a while! I've never read Sarah MacLean before so I figured I would start from the beginning and I am so happy I did。I loved Callie in every way! She was so fun and determined。 I also (obviously) adored Ralston (even though he continuously messed up over and over and over!!)。I would highly recommend this to all historical romance lovers! I wanted to like this a lot more like my friends did but i found the story to move a bit slower than expected and the romance between the characters not spark or make me excited。

Gabriel wasn't the worst rake, but he was her rake。 I like when these men have a moment with the heroine that affects her deeply and him not at all。 I'm amused。 Callie is a funny character。 I loved Juliana and I now need to know what happened with the Duke。 Gabriel was a bit annoying but mostly funny aa well。 Gabriel wasn't the worst rake, but he was her rake。 I like when these men have a moment with the heroine that affects her deeply and him not at all。 I'm amused。 Callie is a funny character。 I loved Juliana and I now need to know what happened with the Duke。 Gabriel was a bit annoying but mostly funny aa well。 。。。more

Nine Rules was fantastic-- the plot was tight and witty, the characters were dynamic and enjoyable to be with。 I love to see characters who develop a better relationship with themselves through their experiences with another person。 Callie's adventures were often quite funny without feeling forced, mostly due to some pretty stellar banter and Ralston's begrudging affection。 The conflicts didn't feel too forced which I always appreciate in my romance novels。 Onto the next Sarah Maclean novel! I feel like Stefan saying this, but this book has it all! Ladies in trousers, ladies in public houses, ladies in gentlemen’s clubs! Well, lady singular。 Calpurnia is a badass, and I truly hope that if I were born to (in?) the ton in the early 1800s, I hope I’d be a lot like her。

Dhanishtha Ghosh

A rather daring sister of an Earl I must say。 She would have made a good potrait of modern empowered women。 Drinking scotch, smoking cheroot, fencing, duelling, riding, etc。 was quite an adventure, I must say。 Enjoyed it!!

5 stars for damn sure! The character development and arches in these books are delightful! DNF @ 62% meh, not nearly anachronistically feminist enough for me。
